Tips for staying on track during holiday travels

Tips for staying on track during holiday travels

Tis the season to …… forget all about your goals. Just kidding, I’ve got some tips to share to help you stay on course if that’s your jam. It’s okay, I implement all these tips I am about to share. It’s my jam too.

If you track your macronutrients or calories on the daily like I do I’m sure you have experienced anxiety with food while traveling in general or for the holidays.

Here are some things that have helped me over the years;

  • First, I always pack food for the destination and for the road. A few things I like to pack are; tuna packets, beef jerky, protein bars, protein powder, pretzels, and rice cakes. You can easily eat these on the road trip but I also like to pack premade sandwiches and Greek yogurts. Oh and lots of water, we take a few gallons of water depending on how long of a drive we are about to take.

  • Remembering that just because you are on holiday or out of town does not mean you change as a person. You are still that healthy person that likes eating well and staying in shape.

  • Once we arrive at our destination we will most likely go to the grocery store to stock up on things we like to eat. This helps to not stray away from our normal too much.

  • When we go out to a restaurant depending on what I’ve eaten that day or how I’m feeling I will either choose a meal I can be content with and comfortably estimate or I will have that meal I’m craving. One big off track meal won’t kill you. I will stay aware of how I’m feeling and stop eating when I’m full if I decide to have that all out burger and fries. When I’m done, I’m done and I move on.

  • As for the rest of the trip when we are eating at our current place of stay, I keep my principles the same. Which includes, drinking water as soon as I wake up, drinking my same coffee as I would at home (I don’t go ham on the creamer. I use what I would normally use), if I have the opportunity to make my own breakfast I will make a breakfast I like that I would normally have, and so forth for the rest of the day.

I’ll be realistic here, there will be treats (it’s the holidays), I will eat these treats but I will do so in moderation, lol maybe moderation but I won't throw out my entire normal just because it’s the holidays. I live this lifestyle because it makes me feel good. It allows me to eat healthy foods I enjoy, have those burgers and fries or pizza when I want it, and have yummy treats during the holidays.

Keep it simple and keep it fun.

Happy holidays!
